This post is not about racism. This post is about us, Malaysians, and what has become of us.
I read a comment by a Chinese on Tun Mahathir’s blog and I must say I felt deeply embarassed. Though perhaps not all Malays are like what he said, he does have a good point.
“I’m very confused of the hypocrisy of these UMNO Malays. They claim Malays are very cultured. TV3 carried their news that MCA has chosen to sideline moral values in picking Soi Lek. These Malays seems to portray that they are very cultured and non Malays are not. Why so proud of your culture if you do not know how to respect the elder; particularly the one who has served you. Normally the Malays will say the Chinese are not as cultured as they are. Take a look at Singapore. You ought to be ashame of yourselves. See how they respected and value their elderly statesman. If you think Tun was bad for giving you an easy life ( remember during Tun Hussein’s time there was 100 bicycles on the road for every car), Lee Kuan Yew made his son a senior minister before he left office and put Goh Chok Tong just and a stop gap. Yet they know how to respect the man whom they believe has more good than bad. If there was one man in this country who has done more good than bad for the rakyat, it was Tun. What is the point of calling yourselves cultured if you do not know how to give the simplest respect to him. Learn from the Chinese. You ought to be ashame of yourself. Gratitude is the core value one should have in life.”
I was always taught, ever since I was a little girl, to always ALWAYS respect your elders. No matter what.
Children nowadays seem to lack that. You have young girls kicking and punching their teachers, young boys bashing their parents for money, and verbal abuse? It’s like a norm to the everyday school-goer. Four letter words are used nonchalantly, as if it’s simply an expressive lingual use, and there’s nothing wrong with it.
Why? Haven’t we, the elder generation been setting a good example for them to follow? Haven’t the parents been teaching them enough manners?
Fingers start flying around, pointing front left back and centre trying to put a blame on something or another. Blame the media, blame peer pressure. I put the blame on everything.
Isn’t the Malay culture supposed to be the epitome of politeness and grace? Sopan santun, berbudi bahasa, bertata susila.. where has all that gone to?
Our elders, namely the UMNO, aren’t that great at living up to the Malay name either. Heboh mempertahankan martabat dan maruah Melayu. Just take a look at the parliamentary debate, I’m ashamed to have them say they are MELAYU. Cakap jerit-jerit, throwing insults like nobody’s business, how very uncultured. Melayu lah tu ye?

The most embarassing of them all has got to be our Sleeping-PM a.k.a Bapa Mertua mamat di atas. Yes, you all know who he is. He held a press conference recently, condemning Tun Mahathir for voicing out his opinions on UMNO. He was downright rude. Kacang lupakan kulit. The man has let it all go to his head. I felt so sick reading all about it.
Of all the mistakes that Tun Mahathir has made throughout his tenure as PM, we cannot deny that without him, the world would not even know that we exist. We must realize that he’s only human but he has done amazing feats for the betterment of the country. He deserves every single bit of respect that is given to him and it sickens me to hear and see all these politicians go around disrespecting him so. Remember when AAB first became PM? All our UMNO politicians started their apple polishing activities and condemned Tun in every way possible. I stopped reading the papers. I stopped watching the news. I couldn’t take it that these people were so fast to forget what the old man had worked so hard for.
AAB is stepping down from his post. Yet, he still manages to squeeze in time to throw insults at Tun. I wonder, what significant thing has AAB done for the country throughout his time as PM? My mind draws a blank. Does he have a right to be so rude and disrespectful? I think not.
Melayukah itu?
Note : I rarely care much about politics, and it is even a more rare occasion that I write a post about it. This goes to show how disturbed I am by the current situation. Please take note that I am neither a supporter of UMNO, nor am I on the opposing party’s side of the fence. This is merely my personal point of view with no political biasedness involved.
I agree with you. Not all. Just some of them still not yet open their mind.Some politician should go back to what they prepare for malaysian teens. Khidmat Negara. Perkauman, but lets see what our politician saying and doing? They should go for Khidmat Negara instead.Sometimes really confuse. Why they are there…
Sakit hati kan tengok/baca perangai budak2 sekarang? But i think its not just budak2 but also orang tua. Bila orang tua tak hormat orang, yg budak2 tu apa lagi? KJ tu kalau anak i dah lama kena cili mulut dia. To me, politicians semua lebih kurang. You have to take them with a pinch of salt and when it comes to choosing, choose the lesser evil.
First, yup, true Tun Dr.M put us on the map of the world.. 🙂Second, nowadays no matter what race, the teenagers are getting very2 rude and memang kurang ajar..i dared to say this as my mom is a school’s principal and it’s very2 different eventhough i’m a few years apart from them but the differences between my time and now is like soo wide already…Third, we can see everyday free politic drama at the parliament meetings showing live at tv1..eh, not much to say about that, guess you all know by now..heh..
I agree with you totally. When I was studying in England, my coursemates had never heard of M’sia. Now, they all know us…”oh, that country with Petronas Twin Towers”. And in school, they studied the Twin Towers in their Pure Maths. Or is it Add Maths? I forgot. Never mind, you know what I’m saying.And who put us on the map? None other than Tun Mahathir!!

i have stopped reading the papers and watched the news since eons ago..once in a while, i try to tune on the tv to watch the news but it’s d same issue over and over again..so why bother watching? i’d rather tune on to australia’s next top model at Ch V everyday at 8pm..repeat pon repeat la..janji tade hati yg sakit hehe..(again dis is my opinion..some ppl may say im ignorant but wateeveerrr)
am still waiting for the day till we will call our selves malaysian n not ethnic tags. as for me i alwas say malaysian to te teksi driver, friends, kakak toll booth (esp for rajen this on – twiggy u wanna know ask him)

And let’s not forget how fond we Malays are of <>perli-memperli<>… a particular cultural habit that I detest… which I think is rather uncouth.Our other weakness is that we’re easily complacent.Malaysian politics is going down the toilet as it is.You should provide a link to that said comment btw.

I totally agree with you. It is really sad looking at Malaysians nowadays, be they Malay, Chinese, Indian or others. Respect to elders is next to nothing. I don’t care what race a person is. To me, race is just an accident by birth. It’s what’s inside you that’s more important.And speaking of politicians, the majority of them are just a bunch of selfish, racist, short-sighted, blundering etc etc assholes, hardly worth to become the people’s representatives. If only the people know what those politicians are doing right now.Lastly, just for the record, I hate politics.

As Tun Mahathir once said, Melayu mudah lupa. I guess there is some truth to it.
