The Hijjab

October 10, 2007 by TwiggyLiyana 9 Comments

Better known as the ‘tudung’ here in our country.

It’s funny how whenever guys want to attack the girls in a religious angle, they will often use the hijjab as their ammo.

“Kau tu kalau pakai tudung kan lagi elok? Bukan wajib ke? Kau takmau pakai ke? Lawaaa kalau pakai…”

“Ek eleh, kalau pakai tudung tapi pakai jeans ketat buat hape??”

“Tudung tu cam pendek je? Stylo semacam, dalam Quran ada soh pakai tudung stylo camtu ke?”

Among the many critisms that I’ve heard flying around. Regardless whether you don the hijjab or not, you are still a target of their harsh put-downs whenever they feel like they want to put up a holier-than-thou act. At that particular moment the guys seem to forget that they have their own sinful deeds to worry about and are much more content on picking on the ladies.

I especially find it annoying when boys force/nag their girlfriends to wear the tudung. First of all, who do you think you are? When she becomes your wife, then you have all the right in the world to nag if you want to. Even then it should be done in a nice way. Otherwise, it would either put a strain in your relationship or a patch of hatred and hurt deep down in your wife’s heart and THAT is NOT GOOD.

Then there are the girls with the i-have-started-to-wear-tudung-now-i-must-preach-to-everyone type. I mean, COME ON! Yes, we are all elated that you have chosen to do a good thing, we support you and you are still our friend and all that, but do realize that when you start preaching continuously, you’re basically pushing everyone away. No, it’s not that we don’t want to be your friend anymore because you have started wearing the tudung. Stop thinking that we think you are uncool because of your hijjab! We have tonnes of friends who wear the hijjab and they are among the coolest and most stylish people around. It’s your constant preaching attitude that you have suddenly developed that is turning everyone away.

Sometimes, it’s ok to just smile and nod in appreciation on the good things that people do, regardless whether they wear the hijjab or not. Sometimes, the person can be most pious in the eyes of others, but behind the scenes, he’s molesting his own kids. Sometimes, it doesn’t matter how a person wears their hijjab, at least they’re taking a step towards embracing their obligation. Sometimes a person can be wearing a hijjab one minute, and taking it off the next, but she never misses a prayer. Sometimes, a person can be wearing the tightest forms of clothes with the blondest bleached hair, but she never misses a fasting day in Ramadan and always makes sure the orphans are looked after and cared for.

I’m not a person who’s against religion. I’m just against preacher-wannabes who sometimes do so at the wrong place and time and even worse, sometimes barely have enough knowledge themselves but feel that they are all the most righteous person to go and preach upon others and point fingers. Look into the mirror first and preach to yourself, or you’ll only bring trouble and condemnation which is not what religion is supposed to bring.

Anyway, here’s a clip done by MMU students that I simply love. What message it brings is up to your own interpretation.

Before you judge others, remember that you are not that perfect either.

i dont agree with you.u cannot harap semua org bertudung wajib baek.manusia tak sempurna.tapi at least dah bertudung and bile bertudung,kdg2 bolay menghalang dari berbuat benda yang x elok.bila dah free hair, dah terang2 dapat dosa.bila buat menda lain,bertambah2 lah dosa.nanti suami pn tanggung dosa sama..n also parents..semua tanggung dosa.

My thoughts,…1. women who wear hijjab doesn’t mean that they’re much better person than women who don’t… yep totally agree with this!2. i found that women who don’t wear hijjab are quite sensitive or ‘disturbed’ with why-don’t-you-wear-tudung issue, partly because of the way they have been critisised, and, partly because their own conscience is bothering them…3. no offense but I think those people who are trying to encourage you to wear tudung , although they are not perfect persons themselves but at least they are encouraging you to do a good thing…, but again, depends on how they delivered the message…4. i don’t like women who wear tudung and look down on people who don’t wear the headscarf.5. i hope you will start wearing one soon. you sound like a very nice lady in your blog. Do not need to rush thing. do it secara ikhlas not because other people told you to do so, ok? because if you are honest and sincere with your choice and believe then nothing will stop you from continue doing and believing so. sometimes it is hard to be fashionable with tudung but again, if you are ikhlas this is not the reason to not wear tudung. remember, wearing hijab is a way to show your devotion to god., not to please other people….

hallo! sorry aa…was away for raya! 😀and yes, i don’t know why people tend to think that if you don’t wear tudung and dress a bit stylishly, then you’re grouped as the “terlepas” girls.*sigh*tengok orang kat atas tu, belum pape dah nak classify aku. first question dia tanya is whether or not i wear the tudung. sheesh. defeats the whole point of my post.

totally agree coz i feel if the guys wanna tell u all to get your tudungs on tell them to get their kepiahs on stop smoking stop oogling at chicks and stop drinking in t quiet. holier then thou konon. i agree. its no use having a tudung but perangai gossip smoking in the room – seen it during uni and those malays girls who dont wear tudung but r nice ppl get talking abt. sedarlah diri tu sikit. this is why i feel that religion doesnt promote forward and practical thinking. we have to question the relevance of alot of things in this modern era. i think as long as u r a good person dont hurt other ppl, try your best to be a good human ur good to go. the point is it doesnt make u a bad person if u drink, or hv premarital sex of whatever ler. what makes u a bad person is if u pretend to be baik and do all the stuff in silence inc mengumpat hurting ppl etc. tata selamat hari raya. btw did u see my bday post on the blog ! hehehehe i cant see t clip coz am on dial up coz my office server down. global problem it seems macam macam lerbtw be true to your self n u good to go. ttfn

This will be the last of our rabbits. I don't think our hearts can take losing anymore bunnies. Chemps especially... We will miss watching you sprint across the garden, eat your favourite treats out of our hand and you teasing and playing around with the chickens. "I love you, Lulu" - Alisha.
