As you all know (hopefully), our ex-Prime Minister has been rather ill lately, undergoing surgeries for his heart problems. Yesterday, he underwent surgery again to remove a wound infection. Currently in the ICU, he will be on support for at least 36 hours for post operative care.
I do hope he will be alright. He’s one of my idols. Malaysia wouldn’t be where it is today if it wasn’t for Dr M. All the opposition can condemn him till the world ends, but I will forever support and be inspired by his achievements and leadership. If you noticed, ever since he retired, we (meaning Malaysia) are progressing in a pain-stakingly slow pace (typical ‘orang gomen’ speed).
Dr. M, I pray for your speedy recovery and good health.

Mahathir undergoes surgery to remove infection
PETALING JAYA: Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad underwent surgery for a wound infection at the National Heart Institute (IJN) over the weekend.
The surgery to remove the infection was carried out at 11.30pm on Saturday and was completed at 2.30am yesterday, according to a statement from IJN.
“He is currently stable and has been put under routine post-cardiac surgery support,” it said.
The procedure was done by the same surgical team, including Tan Sri Dr Yahya Awang, that performed Dr Mahathir’s second coronary bypass surgery on Sept 4.
Dr Mahathir is expected to remain on support for at least 36 hours for post-operative care, the statement said.
IJN doctors and nurses have placed him in the intensive care unit for observation and are monitoring his progress. The statement said that the next 72 hours would be a crucial period in his post-operative care.
When contacted, Datin Paduka Marina Mahathir said her father was doing fine and was under sedation.
“He is a strong and determined man. And it is all in the mental attitude,” she said.
“He is starting off from a different point from previously when he was healthy. Now, he is already weak and that was the worry.”
She added that the family was doing okay although it felt like they “were going through the entire surgery again with less time to prepare”.
Her blog posting, http://www.rantingsbymm.blogspot.com/, yesterday chronicled the episode where she said it was hard to not get emotional but the family kept a brave face for her father’s sake as he was wheeled in for the procedure.
She also wrote that she did “downplay” Dr Mahathir’s condition in the past week to make it sound better than it was because she did not want to worry anyone, while the doctors tried to find the source of infection.
They figured it out on Saturday afternoon, she added and at 3am yesterday Dr Yahaya informed them that the source of infection had been removed.
“So, please do not worry. He got through the operation okay. His heart is fine. Now it is a matter once again of recovery,” she wrote.
Marina also asked Malaysians to pray for her father’s speedy recovery.
