Barney Themed Birthday Party

Party Fluff’s very first official party works was for none other than the super adorable Chenta Auliya. Her mom, who happened to be a good friend of mine, was kind and ever trusting enough to enlist me in helping her throw her only daughter’s 2nd birthday bash!

In all honesty, I initially thought it would be a minimal birthday do, but as I met up and discussed further with the excited mommy, I realized that man, the birthday’s gonna be huge!! I was ready to pee in my pants but I wasn’t gonna let the birthday girl down!

The theme chosen for the birthday party was Barney (the purple dinosaur, not stinson) and as we threw ideas back and forth, the both of us got more and more excited (and me more and more nervous). Heck, I couldn’t even get much sleep leading up to the days of the party. A complete nervous wreck! hahahahah!! All hands were on deck as we prepped for Chenta’s Barney themed birthday party. Even her mom, dad, aunts, uncles, cousins and not to forget grandparents (!) lent a hand in hanging up banners, setting up the tables, moving the furniture, cooking, and all else that needed to be done.

The party day finally arrived and all systems were go! Barney made a special appearance and we all had a fun sing-along and jiggity dance session. Never in my entire life did I imagine that I’d get the chance to host a party with BARNEY!! It was simply magical! We even had child-sized cutouts of Baby Bop and BJ! Yes, I was just as excited as the kids were, hiihihii 😀

Chenta would you like to give Barney a hug?

the birthday girl’s mom and dad!

After belting our hearts out to some of the birthday girl’s favourite Barney show tunes, the kids headed over to their seats and munched on some Barney Bites and cupcakes.

Little tables and chairs for the little guests!

Each little guest had their own special seat 😀

Once done with their food, we cleared the tables and made way for finger painting fun! Young picassos unleashed their creativity and dabbed their fingers away to painting perfection 😀 One of our younger artists decided that the paint looked really delicious so he started to lick them off his finger, hahahahah, but not to worry. The paint is 100% home made and non-toxic. I actually whipped up the paint just an hour  before the party started!

Having some finger painting fun

At the end of the party, I am glad to say that the party hosts and guests had a super-dee-duper time! As the kids bid goodbye to the hosts, they left little well wishes for the birthday girl and were each given a party pack consisting a set of three toddler-safe homemade play-dough and a little bubble blower 🙂

Eggless Cookies for Chemps!

Do your kids watch YouTube? I’m sure they do. I think kids nowadays are born with an inner instinct. Using iPads and smart phones is like second nature to them.

Anyway, Chemps is a fan of this baking show on YouTube  called Nerdy Nummies. Two years ago, she happened to chance upon an episode where the host was baking My Little Pony cupcakes, and she’s been hooked ever since. So when I saw her interest, the kitchen blondie me thought, mehhh.. why not, let’s bake some cookies (sayang anak punya pasal).

Nerdy NummiesRo, from Nerdy Nummies, Chemps’ fave baking show on YouTube

Our first cookie baking adventure started off with a recipe shared by my friend Shila. She’s amazingly talented at all these creative baking stuff so when she shared her recipe, I figured it can’t go wrong. Alhamdulillah the cookies turned out great!! We even decorated them with colourful royal icing. Chemps had a blast baking the cookies and icing them and was real happy when I packed her an entire pack to share with her school friends.

first baking adventureShe bakes!

Unfortunately, I forgot about her allergy to eggs. So not long after kneading the dough, the skin around her eyes became dry, flaky and red. Pretty soon more areas on her face, hands and legs started getting red and itchy as well. Her eczema flared thanks to the eggs in the recipe.

Chemps was a real champ though, as always she didn’t complain at all about her itch, and was just thrilled that she made cookies like in her favourite baking show.

So taking the experience as a lesson learned, when she next requested to bake cookies, I opted for an eggless recipe. I was quite weary as to how the cookies would end up looking and tasting since there are no eggs involved to hold everything together but Alhamdulillah they turned out great! Chemps was so happy, she couldn’t stop munching on them the moment they cooled from the oven! Success!!

Yaayyy!! We made eggless cookies!!
animalsAnimal cookies!! nyaaammm nyam nyam!

Best part was, no itching! Yaaayyy!!

So to all you i-can’t-eat-eggs people out there, give this recipe a try!

What you need:
3 cups of flour
1 1/2 teaspoons of baking powder
1/2 teaspoon of salt200grams of butter (softened at room temperature)
1 cup of caster sugar
4 1/2 tablespoons of milk (any fresh milk will do)
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 cups of flour
1 1/2 teaspoons of baking powder
1/2 teaspoon of salt

How to make it:
Sift the flour, baking powder and salt together into a large bowl and set aside.

In a mixing bowl, beat the butter and sugar together until it’s smooth and fluffy. I don’t have a fancy mixer so I used a hand mixer, no problem, it gets the job done 🙂

Once the sugar-butter mix is of satisfactory texture, add in the milk and vanilla and beat until combined.

Then, in batches of half cups if you may, add in the flour-bakingpowder-salt and mix well by hand until combined. If your dough is good enough to be rolled into a ball, you’re done! Try not to knead it too much or your cookies might end up tough.

Next, roll the dough out to about 1/4 of an inch thick, cut them out with those fabulous cookie cutters you have stored somewhere in your kitchen and place them in pans on ungreased cookie sheets. Don’t worry about placing them close together as the cookies don’t seem to spread out or puff out so much.

Pop them into the oven at about 175C-180C for around 10 minutes if your cookies are on the thin side, or longer if you made yourself a batch of those fat thick ilovemycookiessolid kind. Your cookies should end up still light in colour but browning around the edges. If you end up with a completely brown cookie, then cut down the oven time for the next batch.

PhotoGrid_1380444309371This is roughly about the colour they should be

Let them cool on the tray for around 5 minutes and then transfer them onto a cooling rack to cool completely before popping them into your mouths or keeping them in an airtight container.
