Last night, we waited up till midnight, to sing her a happy birthday. Usually, my family tradition would be for us to quietly group together, and sing a surprise happy birthday song to the birthday person the morning of their birthday. When I was younger, my mom would be holding the presents while my dad and sister would be on the bed jumping while singing happy birthday, waking me up from my sleep. Best gila. Celik mata je dapat presents, cards, hugs and kisses.
This year, the tradition changed slightly. To cater to the time difference of my sister in Lancaster, we sang to my mother at the stroke of midnight. All of us surprised my mom who was watching tv with our off-key and unsynchronized happy birthday song. Yes, including my sister all the way in Lancaster, thanks to Skype!! My husband held the laptop with my sister’s face on full screen (on video call).
So mom’s birthday was still had her family full force singing happy birthday, thanks to technology.
Don’t we just love the internet.
Happy birthday Mama!! Love you lots and lots.
