OK, so here’s the thing. I’ve been hearing quite a number of people telling me that Adlin Aman Ramli wore this controversial “rantai” during one of the Akademi Fantasia 6 concerts. So I decided to do a little digging for I had no idea what was going on.
Apparently, Adlin wore a necklace with a large pendant that bore similar resemblance to the crucifix. Obviously being a Muslim in Malaysia, that’s a big no no. Even more so when you are a celebrity and your big round face is appearing live on national tv and your stupid pendant is out there for all to see.
Here’s a snapshot of Adlin looking so smug with his dangly necklace.
Now, the picture’s a bit unclear, but if you take a close look, the pendant looks like the symbol of the Egyptian ankh.
From Wiki : The ankh (symbol ☥) was the Egyptian hieroglyphic character that read “life”. Egyptian gods are often portrayed carrying it by its loop, or bearing one in each hand, arms crossed over their chest. It is also known as the Egyptian Cross, the key of life, the key of the Nile, or as crux ansata, Latin for “cross with a handle”. it is a combination of the male and female symbols of Osiris (the cross) and Isis (the oval) respectively, and therefore signifies the union of heaven and earth
Some say it’s a gender symbol, but in my opinion it looks more like the ankh.
So what’s the big deal? Well, the big deal is that a whole bunch of people who saw it, thought that he was wearing a cross. Cross or ankh, I still feel that he shouldn’t have worn that on national tv. Whatmore on a programme like AF, where most of the people watching are.. well.. local in thinking (no offense to anyone). Adlin should have known better.
Oh well. *shrug*
